Introduction
Cosbyte is a Ghanaian product company building digital infrastructure for emerging markets. We are pre-revenue, products-focused since 2025, and assembling a small founding team to take GigShip — our gig economy platform — from active testing to public launch and growth.
This is a founding role. You will be the primary technical architect alongside the founder. The compensation is transparent: 7–10% equity (4-year vest, 1-year cliff) + GH₵500/month stipend + 20GB data. We name the number because we respect your time. You will focus on completing and scaling GigShip — currently soft-launched and in active testing in Ghana — while laying the technical foundation for a broader infrastructure ecosystem.
What You'll Do
- Complete and scale GigShip: fix critical bugs from soft launch feedback, migrate from MongoDB to PostgreSQL + PostGIS, refactor to TypeScript, optimize performance (fast page loads and API responses), and drive user growth from waitlist conversions.
- Build and maintain full-stack features: backend APIs (Node.js + Express + TypeScript + Prisma), frontend UIs (React + Vite + TailwindCSS), and mobile app updates (React Native + Expo).
- Design and implement critical systems: geospatial queries (PostGIS for nearby features), real-time capabilities (Socket.io), payments (Paystack, Flutterwave, mobile money), SMS (Africa's Talking), and media storage (Cloudinary).
- Extract and build reusable infrastructure: refactor code into shared packages (e.g., auth, wallet, geo-engine), set up monorepo architecture (pnpm workspaces + Turbo), and establish unified systems to support future scalability.
- Write clean, tested code using Jest, Playwright, and best practices; ensure performance, security, and maintainability.
- Deploy and monitor applications (Railway/Render, Sentry) while making pragmatic technical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate closely with the founder on product priorities, implement user feedback, support growth initiatives, and help recruit additional engineers.

What We're Looking For
- Proven Expertise: 3–5+ years full-stack development with shipped production web and/or mobile apps you can point to. Bonus: products with real users in Africa.
- Strong Technical Foundation: Expert-level Node.js + TypeScript + React (and React Native comfort); PostgreSQL schema design, migrations, and optimization.
- Startup Mindset: Ships fast, iterates quickly, thrives in ambiguity, debugs across the full stack, makes pragmatic tradeoffs (MVP > perfect), resourceful, and takes full ownership.
- Impact-Driven & Mission-Aligned: Passionate about building meaningful solutions for Ghana/Africa and motivated by significant equity in an early-stage company.
- AI-Fluent (Strong Plus): Leverages AI tools to accelerate development 2–3x while understanding and refining generated code.
- Location Flexibility: Based in Accra or willing to join hybrid rhythm (in-person collaboration in Accra/Kasoa).
What We Offer
Founding Equity: 7–10%
This is a founding team role. Equity is 7–10% with a 4-year vest and 1-year cliff. You earn the right to own what you build over time — not symbolic shares, real ownership.
Monthly Stipend: GH₵500
We are pre-revenue and we name the number rather than hide it. The current stipend is GH₵500/month — a bridge to first funding, not a salary. The equity is the compensation at this stage. Reviewed and scaled at our first funding milestone.
Internet Data: 20GB/month
Monthly data allowance included. Remote-first work requires connectivity — this is a baseline, non-negotiable commitment from us.
Hybrid — Accra / Kasoa
Remote-first with in-person collaboration at our Accra/Kasoa base when it adds genuine value. Async-friendly culture. No performative office hours.
Direct Founder Collaboration
No layers. No bureaucracy. You work directly with the founder, own your technical domain from day one, and your decisions shape the product.
Full Transparency — Always
Financials, product metrics, fundraising progress, and roadmap shared openly with the full team. You will always know exactly where the company stands.
